In the furniture industry, the four qualities to look for are composition, light fastness, pilling, and Martindale rub (abrasion resistance). Here are some tips to keep your polyester furniture in top condition: 

• Routine Vacuuming: Weekly, you should gently use a dry brush to remove all loose particles from the polyester and use a handheld vacuum to remove the loose dirt, hair, crumbs, etc., after brushing. 

• Routine Wipe Down: Once a week use a water-based, or solvent-based polyester furniture cleaner and lightly wipe down with a microfiber cloth. Make sure to check the furniture tag for a cleaning code, this will tell you what type of polyester cleaner is best for you. 

• Clean Stains Immediately: Stains should be cleaned immediately. Blot the area, do not rub as it will go deeper into the material. A solvent-based cleaner is best for a stain. 

• Deodorize: If your furniture has a funky smell, lemon eliminates odors. In a spray bottle, mix water and lemon juice, then lightly mist your furniture. 

• Steam Cleaning: Before steam cleaning, check the furniture tag to make sure it is safe. Every 6-12 months is a great time to steam-clean your polyester furniture. 
  • High temperature loosens deep dirt, dust, and grime.
  • Steam kills bacteria, mold, and dust mites.
  • Helps eliminate odors trapped in the fabric.
  • Steam can revive the appearance and softness.
