At Fjords, we take immense pride in crafting timeless, Scandinavian-inspired furniture. Each piece is meticulously designed to blend aesthetics, function and full-body comfort. They also offer enduring quality, assuming the furniture is taken care of properly.

To ensure your Fjords furniture retains its original allure and performance over the years, we’ve put together an essential product care guide.

Follow these simple furniture care maintenance practices to enjoy the beauty and comfort of you furniture for many years to come.

Leather Furniture Care

Fjords customers often choose one of our top grain leather options for their furniture. Unlike many manufacturers, we use leather on the majority of the furniture surfaces – not just the places you touch.

And, because we use a through-dyed process, scratches and cuts are less noticeable. With this process, dye colors at the top of the hide, all the way through the bottom. So, when a scratch accidentally happens, the color stays the same, unlike cheaply dyed leather, in which the scratch would show up white. On darker colored leathers, this blemish would be highly noticeable.

Thankfully, Fjords leather furniture is easy to take care of, naturally durable and becomes more beautiful with use. Here are some tips to keep your top grain leather furniture from Fjords in optimal condition:

  • Routine Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down your top grain leather furniture weekly, removing any dust or dirt that has settled.
  • Deep Cleaning: Every 3-6 months, perform a deep cleaning using a leather-specific cleaner. Apply the cleaner to a soft cloth and gently rub it into the leather in a circular motion. Avoid using regular household cleaners, which can be too harsh and damage the leather.
  • Conditioning: To keep the leather supple and prevent cracking, apply a quality leather conditioner every 6-12 months.
  • Avoid Direct Sunlight & Heat: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause the leather to fade. Position your furniture away from the windows or areas where the sunlight hits directly. Also, avoid placing it near heat sources like fireplaces or radiators, as the heat can cause the leather to crack or warp.
  • Quickly Clean Spills: If a spill occurs, blot it immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Never rub the spill as it can cause the liquid to spread and sink deeper into the leather.
  • Use Leather Protectant: Applying a leather protectant can provide a barrier against stains and spills, making your furniture easier to clean and maintain.
  • Avoid Clothing Dye Mishaps: Be careful when wearing new clothes, as darker-colored dyes can transfer onto lighter-colored leathers.

Fabric-Covered Furniture Care

Fjords offers a variety of non-leather material furniture options. In the furniture industry, the four qualities to look for are composition, light fastness, pilling and Martindale rub (abrasion resistance). In addition to regular wear and tear, these qualities can affect how long your furniture maintains its good condition. At Fjords, we are consistently above industry standards for all four qualities.

Tips to keep your Fjords fabric-covered furniture in optimal condition:

  • Regular Vacuuming: Use the upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaner to remove dust and prevent it from settling into the fibers. This should be done weekly.
  • Quickly Clean Spills: If a spill occurs, quickly blot it with a clean, dry cloth to prevent it from soaking in. Do not rub as it may cause the stain to spread or deepen.
  • Professional Cleaning: We recommend professional cleaning for a deep clean every 12-18 months or immediately if a stubborn stain occurs.
  • Avoid Clothing Dye Mishaps: Be careful when wearing new clothes, as darker-colored dyes can transfer onto lighter-colored fabrics.

Wood Furniture Care

The wooden bases and elements of our furniture are what give them that distinct, Scandinavian appeal. Preserve their beauty by regularly doing the following:

  • Dusting: Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Always follow the grain direction to avoid scratches.
  • Polishing: Use a quality furniture polish every few months to maintain the wood’s sheen.
  • Avoid Moisture & Heat: Avoid placing the furniture near heat sources or in areas with high humidity. And be sure to protect the wood on table sectionals from hot objects and liquids. Use coasters and placemats, as necessary.

High-Quality Furniture Can Last A Long Time

With the right care, our Scandinavian-inspired furniture can offer comfort, functionality and a touch of Nordic elegance that transcends time.
